Thursday 6 October 2011

On Thursday, we have organized an excursion in the Island of Kos, which will be free to all conference participants. The excursion will start at 13:00 and last until 16:30. The tour will take us to the Asclepeion, the most important and popular ancient sight in Kos, located in a wonderful place full of pine trees, at a distance of 4 kilometres in the south-west of the capital. Asclepeion was an ancient sanctuary, dedicated to Asclepius, god of healing. It was also a healing centre and the place where Hippocrates taught medicine. It is separated in three levels, and we will have the chance to admire well preserved temples dating back to the 4th B.C. century. We will then visit the Hippocratic Museum and the International Hippocratic Foundation. These are located just before Asclepeion and are dedicated to the "Father of Medicine", Hippocrates, who is credited with laying the foundations of medicine as a science. We will have the opportunity to watch a short retrospection in the life and science of Hippocrates, and witness the re-enactment of taking the Hippocratic Oath, a ceremony drifting back 2,500 years into antiquity. Following our tour in Asclepeion and the Hippocratic Museum, we will reboard the coach which will transfer us back to the hotel. During the excursion we will have the opportunity to enjoy a soft lunch.

In the evening we have organized an enjoyable and tasteful Gala Dinner. The dinner will be held at 20:30, at the DoubleTree by Hilton Resort Kos-Helona Hotel, and will comprise sumptuous and tasteful dishes under live music. The MobiHealth 2011 Student Paper Awards will also be announced during the Gala.
