Remote Monitoring - New Perspectives and Tools for Chronic Disease Management
Special Session Call for papers
While Europe's population is ageing, the percentage of people suffering from chronic diseases is growing and the percentage of people working is decreasing. Therefore European member states are facing common challenges associated with ageing societies, increasing levels of chronic diseases, and financial strain on social security organizations. The question raised is the following: How will the national health and social care systems react to these challenges, how will they address them both medically and by socioeconomic terms and how will they remain sustainable? eHealth and telemedicine can offer some solutions to these challenges: for example through remote monitoring and usage of wearable and wireless systems, hospitals and doctors can monitor their patients even across national borders. These new tools can be very efficient in patients' remote follow-up and personalized care, especially valuable in early discharge, as well as in home based monitoring.
The session aims to bring together researchers and practitioners from academia and industry to engage in an in-depth discussion on various research and deployment issues regarding remote monitoring and the new opportunities for chronic disease management.
