Ambient Assistive Technologies for Pervasive Healthcare Services

Special Session Call for papers

You are cordially invited to submit your contribution in the Special Session on "Ambient Assistive Technologies for Pervasive Healthcare Services" organized within the 2nd International ICST Conference on Wireless Mobile Communication and Healthcare (MobiHealth 2011). This Session aims to bring together researchers and practitioners from academia and industry to engage in an in-depth discussion on various research and deployment issues regarding ambient technologies for intelligent healthcare services, pervasive healthcare technologies and applications, services' personalisation and management in assisted living environments, intelligent interactive services environment for assisted living.

Topics covered (if applicable):

We encourage submissions from both academic and industry sector. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Diagnosis & monitoring (follow-up) of chronic diseases
  • Interactive Services for Healthcare and Assisted Living
  • Technologies to support ambient assisted living
  • Networking and Embedded Systems
  • Navigation Systems and Location Based Services for Healthcare
  • Sensor networks for pervasive healthcare
  • Security, privacy and trust in pervasive healthcare
  • User needs, usability and acceptability issues
  • Wearable, ambient and home based health and wellness measurement and monitoring technologies
  • Context aware health systems
  • Mobile and cloud computing for pervasive healthcare

Papers should be submitted to OpenConf by 30 June 2011, by selecting the special session link in the "Topic Area" list.

The preferred length for initial submissions is 4 pages, however the length of final papers should not exceed 8 pages including all figures, tables and references. Extra pages will incur additional charges. The papers must be submitted in PDF format. All papers will be reviewed. All submissions will be peer-reviewed, and acceptances will be provided by 15 July 2011. Submitted papers should be up to 8 pages. Papers may be accepted either as full papers (8 pages) or short papers (4 pages).

Ilias Maglogiannis, University of Central Greece, Greece

Short Bio
Dr. Ilias G. MAGLOGIANNIS received a Diploma in Electrical & Computer Engineering and a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering and Medical Informatics from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) Greece in 1996 and 2000 respectively, with scholarship from the Greek Government. From 1996 until 2000 he worked as a Researcher in the Biomedical Engineering Laboratory in NTUA. From February of 2001 until June 2007 he was a Lecturer with the Dept of Information and Communication Systems Engineering in University of the Aegean, and since 2007 he is Assistant Professor in the Dept. of Computer Science and Biomedical Informatics in the State University of Central Greece. He has been principal investigator in many European and National Research programs in Biomedical Engineering and Informatics, while he has also served as external evaluator in R&D projects for the EU, the Government of Hong Kong, the Republic Cyprus and Greece. His published scientific work includes three (3) books (Springer, IOS press and Morgan Claypool Publishers) and five (5) lecture notes (in Greek) on Biomedical Engineering and Multimedia topics, 58 journal papers and more than 100 international conference papers. Dr. Maglogiannis has received more than 500 citations on his published work. He also serves as Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Information Technology in Biomedicine Journal and editorial board member of the Journal on Information Technology in Healthcare and Intelligent Decision Technologies published by IOS Press. Dr. Maglogiannis is a Senior member of IEEE - Societies: Engineering in Medicine and Biology, Computer, Communications, SPIE - International Society for Optical Engineering, ACM, the Technical Chamber of Greece, the Greek Computer Society, the Hellenic Organization of Biomedical Engineering and the Hellenic Society of Bioinformatics. Dr Maglogiannis was Chair of the AIAI06, 3rd International Conference on Artificial Intelligence Application and Innovations and Program Committee Chair and member of the Founding and Steering Committee of the PETRA conference (ACM International Conference on Pervasive Technologies Related to Assistive Environments) series.

Dimitrios D. Vergados, University of Piraeus, Greece

Short Bio
Dimitrios D. Vergados is a Lecturer in the Department of Informatics, University of Piraeus. He has held position as a Lecturer in the Department of Information and Communication Systems Engineering, University of the Aegean. He received his B.Sc. from the University of Ioannina and his Ph.D. from the National Technical University of Athens, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. His research interests are in the area of Communication Networks, Healthcare - Telemedicine, AAL Technologies, Neural Networks, GRID Technologies, and Computer Vision. He has participated in several projects funded by EU and National Agencies and has several publications in journals, books and conference proceedings. He has served in technical program committees of several conferences. He is a guest editor and a reviewer in several journals.
